About Us
Welcome to the Munster Historical Society. Organized in 1976, our mission is to preserve the history of Munster, Indiana.
Please feel free to explore our website to find out more about us, and the programs we offer.

Munster Historical Society 4th of July Float
Munster 2008 4th of July Parade, 1st Prize!
Over the years, many volunteers donated countless hours of their time to the Munster History Museum, the Woodland Restoration at Heritage Park, Holiday Open House, Annual Dinner, and many other projects, activities, and events. These volunteers came from churches, civic groups, and corporations. They simply felt a strong calling to help in any way they could. Hundreds of local residents and organizations donated money, food, or life skills (and in many cases, all three!) to help the Munster Historical Society accomplish our preservation efforts, museum services, and community educational outreach.

How do I volunteer?
Signing up to volunteer is easy. To participate, just tell us your interests and contact information by calling 2198366530.  Our volunteer coordinator will contact you to discuss your interests, the details of your participation, and the hours you are available.

Where can I find more information on the events you sponsor?
Go to the Munster Historical Society's Facebook Page to find upcoming activities.  Additionally, click on About Us and view our MHS Brochure for more information.

The Munster Historical Society has a small but active membership.  We welcome anyone
who is sincerely interested in preserving and learning about the history of Munster, Indiana.
All age groups, whether you are new in town, a former or long-time resident, or you have
a special interest in the Town of Munster, we welcome your enthusiasm and we need your
support.  There are many good reasons to become a member of the Munster Historical Society.  Some of
our favorite reasons are helping to protect and preserve Munster history, meeting interesting people with
common interests, and making a difference in the local community. We are very interested in hearing why
you became interested, and we hope you will join by filling out our online Membership Form.

Call 219-836-6530 if you have questions or need further information.  Our office at the
Town Hall is usually open every Wednesday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.  However, since our
office is staffed by volunteers with many commitments to the community, it is best to call
ahead before making a trip to the Town Hall.  It may be possible to make an appointment
at a time that could be more flexible for you and/or our volunteers.  Please clearly state
your name, phone number, and leave a brief message.
